Name: Sinbad Door: Door Pass: TDM Thread (Sinbad's birthday is unknown since his world functions on a different calendar to begin with. But additionally, I headcanon him to be an Aries, which would still knock him into the Dominant category, from the TDM) Canon: Magi Canon Point: End of the anime, post-Magnostadt arc. Age: 30 Appearance: 6ft, golden eyes and long purple hair, often pulled back in a ponytail behind him. Very muscular and tanned. Often seen in loose and flowing white and purple robes and bedecked generously in jewelry. Images: [One] [Two] History: Sinbad's Wiki Personality: Sinbad is a man driven by his own ambitions but is a veritable well of charisma and energy. He's one of those people that others are naturally drawn to, caught up by his vision for a better world and his unwavering purpose. The fact that he's charming and friendly and treats everyone as an equal around him, regardless of who they are, also helps. Despite the fact that he's so driven, he also manages to be very laid-back and observant. It's stated from the very beginning that he's an exceptional people person and keenly in-tune with his own intuition when it comes to observing and understanding those around him. Because of this, he describes his natural talent with people as being able to read moods and motives and ambitions in those around them and navigate his way through them as he does the seas. This is a skill that only improves with age, and he's not above using this and his charm to manipulate people at times. This becomes more evident after he becomes King, when he has a country he needs to protect, and also a dangerous enemy in the form of Al-Thamen - it gains him powerful allies and alliances as he works to create a powerful force to counter their evil plans. He acknowledges in his canon that events have forced him to become more sly and manipulative in the motivations behind his actions in order to further achieve his goals as their evil strengthens and grows, but despite hating the 'why' of what he does, he still perceives what he sees as the greater good, intending to change the world for the better. Sinbad is an incorrigible flirt, especially with beautiful women, and he does it as naturally as breathing (although he's not always successful - or sometimes a little too successful). He has a known reputation as being womanizer, although considering he is one of the most famous and powerful men in his world, females flock to him anyway with this reputation, especially combined with his looks and charming flirtations. He relishes it, although it's often a headache for his close companions, especially when he gets tangled up in plots to 'snag' him in a more permanent fashion, something he has shown little interest in. He thrives on adventure and challenge, and embraces new opportunities for it with an outright eagerness, having had many adventures since his youth which earned him the recognition and riches and power he has today. He doesn't shy away from danger, preferring to face it head on and think on his feet, having quick reflexes and instincts. And also some damned amazing luck, because somehow, he not only always manages to come out on top but somehow even better than initially anticipated. he's also an excellent negotiator/mediator, able to talk himself out of most problems, although on the rare few times he can't, he has the skills to protect himself and those around him should it come to that and he will do everything in his power to do so. He has a deep sense of honor and generosity and this has also gone towards gaining him as many loyal followers as he has - ones that are willing to leave everything behind to follow him, caught up in his vision, no matter where it takes them. Even those who have come to settle in his country, the thousands of civilians, are included in this, since Sinbad tends to treat everyone he gathers to him as part of an enormous extended family. (Although don't think that stops him from flirting with them either, mind). He thinks nothing of offering his aid and assistance to anyone who needs it and always has. If he comes across a problem, he is compelled to stay and help fix it, rearranging his plans accordingly, often on the spot. He is a natural leader, statistician, and problem-solver and is not afraid to step in and take charge, roll up his sleeves and get dirty (and occasionally bloody) and make a lasting difference in the world around him. In summary, I'd say his most prominent positive personality traits are his charm, his confidence, his adventurous spirit, and his generosity/altruism. Among his negative personality traits would be that he's manipulative, hedonistic (he will often drink to excess and is a known womanizer, often to problematic lengths), and egotistical (not in that he's full of himself exactly, but firmly believes that he's right and will charge ahead in pursuit of the greater good). In addition, his ambition can also fall to either side of this scale, as he truly does seek to change the world and make it a better place and will go to great lengths to help any he sees in need of aid, but on the darker side of that spectrum, he's pursued this so intently all his life that his egotism can sometimes blind him to the harm of his actions as he pursues this greater good, or who he uses to succeed. It's his ambitions - and the egotism that fuels them - that are ultimately his downfall within the series. Powers and Abilities: Sinbad is one of the most powerful characters in the series, as is marked the moment he is born. He is referred to by the Magi in his world as "First Class Singularity" and a miracle since the ruhk/magic all around the world reacted at the moment of his birth. His natural ability to understand and navigate people's wills and motives as easily as he does a ship at sea gives him a keen understanding and advantage when it comes to dealing with people, but when his words cannot attain his goals, he also has well-honed sword skills and martial arts in a variety of styles from multiple teachers and sparring partners. He also has learned the ability of magoi manipulation, the rare skill with which he can manipulate the magoi/ruhk in his own body or counter the magoi of others, negating their abilities. (Magicians in his canon are born with the ability to manipulate and channel the ruhk within them and around them, so the easy explanation is Sinbad trained himself how to be a Magician, making it a learned talent rather than an innate one). He also has the rare ability of being able to manipulate both light and dark ruhk since he is "half-fallen into Depravity" and straddles the line between both, but at great cost to himself when calls upon this side of his magic. But the powers and ability he is most known for is being a Dungeon Capturer, which has granted him the powers and aid of the Djinn in each Dungeon he has conquered. Most people in his canon can barely survive one Dungeon, but being the anomoly that he is, Sinbad has captured seven. (It could have been more but he relates that when he showed up in the eighth, the Djinn kicked him out and told him he had enough and now none will let him back in.) The seven Djinn he does possess, however, grant him exceptional power over a variety of magics and elements and also allows him to bequeath his followers with some of their powers as well, if they become members of his Household. He possesses Baal the Djinn of Wrath and Heroes (lightning), Focalor the Djinn of Rule and Submission (wind), Zepar the Djinn of Spirit and Puppetry (sound), Valefor the Djinn of Falsehood and Prestige (ice), Furfur the Djinn of Ecstasy and Rending Darkness (barrier penetration), Vepar, and Crocell (the last three are rarely seen except for their ultimate attacks, so less is known about them). On top of the magic these seven Djinn offer him, he has also learned a technique called Djinn Equip, wherein he can take on a form similar to his Djinn and channel their power directly/fully. Each of these seven Equips comes with a distinct look and appearance that has him resembling the form of the Djinn he is 'wearing', such as an ice dragon for Baal or the black-feathered floating form of Focalor. (The easiest comparison here is him going Super Saiyan. Or having a magical girl transformation. Both are somewhat ridiculously accurate.) Inventory: 1.) His customary robes and jewelry that he is seen wearing at all times, as shown in the appearance images above. They are a staple of his appearance. Also, several of his pieces of jewelry bear the seals of his djinn, so he never takes them off. 2.) The short sword he often wears at his hip, it bears the seal of Baal and acts as a sort of lightning rod when Sinbad uses the lightning Djinn's powers. 3.) A large leaf. Samples: I'm linking his TDM here as I often include both introspection and speaking in most of my tags, but this thread in it in particular has turned out to be a very good example. If you would like something more concrete than this, or would prefer samples written separately from the TDM, please let me know. |
